How much is an original Audubon painting worth?
A good number of the 150 different original Audubon Imperial Folio prints sell for between $500.00 and $1,000.00, but a few prints sell for over $30,000.00 each. There are few inexpensive off-sized reproductions of these prints.
Can You authenticate an Audubon print for free?
If there is one single thing that print dealers regularly complain about, it is the high numbers of people who contact them to have their “Audubon” prints identified, authenticated, evaluated or appraised for FREE!
How can you tell if a Audubon print is a reproduction?
This is another indicator. If you have a picture of a bird that is only 6″ tall on the print but stands 3′ tall in nature it is either a reproduction or it may be an Octavo Edition print. (see Octavos below) The only way to confirm a Havell Edition Print that meets the other criteria is to find the watermark on the paper.
How much does an Audubon Havell print cost?
Individual prints sell for from several thousand dollars each up to $200,000.00 or more. These are the most widely and frequently reproduced and copied of all the original Audubon prints. The Audubon Havell Edition prints are hand colored aquatint copper-plate engravings.
Are there watermarks on Audubon Bien prints?
The Bien Edition prints do not carry a watermark. They do however credit Bien on the bottom right hand corner of the print instead of R. Havell. The catch with the Bien prints is that they sometimes put two different subjects on one sheet of paper.
