Can you change the lining of a coat?
Here’s why it’s good to choose a jacket that is already lined: A skilled sewer can remove the lining, use it to make a pattern, and whip up a new one. I, on the other hand, can recommend a good tailor to do that for you.
Can a tailor remove lining to jacket?
It can be done but not without some additional tailoring work to do it properly and preserve the internal construction of the jacket. You can remove the lining from the back of the jacket below the armholes.
How much does it cost to replace a coat lining?

How much lining do I need for a coat?
Since not every inch of your coat will need a lining behind it, you will not need as much material as you would for the main coat fabric. For half linings, you should be able to get away with 1 1/2 yards of material. If you are going with a full lining then you will need 1 3/4 yards of material.

- Lay the lining/facing right side up.
- Lay the main fabric right side down on top of it.
- Clip the corners and curves to remove bulk.
- To finish bagging the jacket, take the main sleeves and lining sleeves and bring them together.
How do you hem a lining coat?
Where the lining meets the fabric of the coat, pull it apart until you see a stitch. With a seam ripper, catch the stitch and pull the ripper to cut the stitch. Pull the lining and the fabric apart and continue around the coat until the hem is completely free. Push back the lining in order to see the hem of the coat.
