Are there still collectors of Magnavox Stereo consoles?
Fortunately for those large stereo consoles of the 1950s-1960s, there are still collectors like Chris Jones able and willing to give them houseroom and to repair them when necessary. Chris has also found a novel way to use his set — as a dog deterrent. (Editor)
How big is a Magnavox side mounted woofer?
Speakers were always touted as a Magnavox strong point. Each channel uses a 15-inch, 4-ohm side firing woofer with, I’d estimate based on Magnavox advertising, a 2-pound magnet. The side-mounted woofers were a Magnavox signature feature, and, since bass is nondirectional, they work fine.
What kind of tuner does a Magnavox concert grand use?
The tuner is essentially the same circuit used in Magnavox’s spare-no-expense “Concert Grand” model that John Eckland described in his September 2007 ARC Magnavox article. The FM multiplex decoder uses three tubes in a textbook scheme that seems to have been short-lived, as the service data shows a completely different design one year later.
What are the controls on a Magnavox speaker?
This Magnavox, generally an up-market brand, is an example. The controls, shown in Figure 3, include the typical tuning (flywheel, naturally), power, function, loudness, treble, and bass, but also a tuning meter and speaker selector.

Where can I find a Magnavox service manual?
Some early models may only have one or two pages of factory service information. Vintage record changer manuals may be several pages and must be ordered separately. If your model or chassis is not listed below contact me for availability. Visit TheSchematicMan.com for service manuals and schematics for Magnavox models manufactured after 1945.

What kind of oscillator is used on Magnavox collectors?
It has a 6EA8-based separate oscillator and mixer stage on FM with an AFC varicap, but a single converter for AM. Two IF stages are used for FM, and one for AM. A ratio detector with a 6AL5 dual diode provides FM demodulation, while a 6BA6-based AM detector incorporates a 10 kHz audio notch filter to suppress adjacent channel heterodynes.
What kind of turn table does Magnavox have?

When did Magnavox remote not sell for$ 1?
A few years back I saw a working early 60s paperwork and remote not sell at a consignment auction for $1. I would have loved to take it home. Ended up rotting away out in the field behind the auction barn. If I just had a truck back in those days… If you like it and have room for it, keep it. It dates from about 1970, give or take a couple years.
When did solid state take over for Magnavox?
If it works and you like it, enjoy it. That can’t be right. It is a tube based console, and by 1970, solid state had long taken over. Since it is stereo, and doesn’t appear to have FM multiplex, I’d place it closer to 1960.
