& It all started in 1979 in Saint-Étienne, when Focal’s talent took root in the workshop of a family-run SME specialising in precision mechanics. Back then, just two men worked on the manufacture of speaker drivers, one of whom was founder Jacques Mahul.
Do old speakers go bad?

No, but there is a lot to say about many things of older speakers. They’re not better simply because they were made to be powered from weaker amplifiers (in general), so they have higher sensitivity, but this usually sacrifices quality somewhere.
How can I test my old speakers?
First listen with the sound very low. If you hear a buzzing sound, it is probably a damaged woofer (or mid-range, if it is a cone driver). After that, turn it up to normal levels and listen for anything out of the ordinary – buzzes, rattles, etc. Generally speakers are pretty reliable.
