How do you calibrate a hand spreader?
Spreader calibration is essentially a very simple process:
- measure the width of spread;
- apply the granules to a small area;
- measure the amount applied to this area;
- compare this amount to the desired dose and adjust the spreader settings until the desired output is obtained.
What do the spreader settings mean?
A spreader setting is the rate in which you apply product to your lawn. Each Jonathan Green product has recommended rates of application and coverage based on bag size. In general, the smaller you set your spreader setting the smaller the hole and the slower the material releases from the hopper.
Do hand held spreaders work?
An inexpensive tool for hand spreading seeds and fertilizer more evenly and easily is a handheld spreader. Compared to a drop or broadcast spreader that you push across the yard, a handheld type is lightweight, inexpensive, and simple to use. It’s best for smaller spaces and smaller budgets.
Can you spread salt with a fertilizer spreader?
Unfortunately, the salt or de-icer can cause corrosion to parts of the spreader, shortening the life of the spreader. We don’t recommend applying salt or soil with Scotts push spreaders, either, as these are too heavy and will likely damage the spreader. Our hand held spreaders can be used for applying salt or sand.
What setting do I put my spreader on for grass seed?
With a handheld broadcast spreader, Scotts recommends a setting of 4 when overseeding or seeding a new lawn but suggests that the sower make two perpendicular passes for new areas. For drop spreaders, use a setting of 8 1/2 for overseeding and a bare-lawn setting of 12 1/2.
